Sharks have been around for as many as 450 million years. That's a lot of time, if you ask me. But, have sharks used that time wisely to evolve. Well, yes indeed. The sharks that are around today
have gone through countless changes, such as the prey they consume and the various shapes of their fins. Take the ancient (and now extinct) Helicoprion for example. Believe it or not, this
prehistoric carnivore had its teeth curled up in a spiral shape. That's not something you see everyday...well not anymore, really. Nowadays, most sharks have the same basic body shape, although
others, such as the frilled shark, have been around for more than 95 million years, and is even still around today. Recently, a horrified fisherman on the coast of Portugal discovered one of
these primitive sharks caught on the end of his line...just imagine the look on his face!
