Sharks might not be the first thing that comes into mind as "important", but these animals really are- for many reasons:
Sharks are an integral part of the ecosystem and if all shark species go extinct, many other sea creatures will not benefit and may even die.
Shark DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is also being used by scientists to treat different illnesses, such as cancer.
Without sharks, many fish species that are usually prey for sharks will boom, and there will be too many uncontrolled species living in the ocean, leading to oceanic creatures dying out.
Sharks are also at the top of the food chain, which keeps the ocean balanced, but if sharks die out there will be too many of one species of fish, which will lead to imbalance in the ocean.
